Takao Minami’s experimentation with collage and narrative takes on an impressionistic course through the Ryukyu Arc with his video Delta Story. Although composed from digital video film and field recordings collected during a voyage from Kagoshima, Amami Oshima, Okinawa, Ishigaki, through to Keelung Port, Taiwan, the artist’s resulting approach is more fragmentary, less specific. Rather than fixating on Japan and Taiwan as definite locations, Minami allows for these images to narrate their own stories and places. The lush series of visual composites is a gradation and permeation of geo-political boundaries that well represents the dynamic experience of travel itself.
